What I Ate Wednesday: Persian Persuasion

It's time for my second WIAW: where did this week go? A lot of it was monotonous: wake up, internship, come home, workout, sleep, repeat. However, a few lovely moments managed to spice this week up.

On Saturday, I went into Manhattan with Greg and Blake, two of my best friends, to celebrate Greg's birthday. His aunt, who works in the theatre, hooked us up with free tickets to Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark! Blake and I are discerning theatre viewers, so we spent a lot of the time laughing at the show's expense. However, we had an amazing time at this kitschy, feel-good musical. We then met up with my other bestie Kaitlin at Caliente Cab, an awesome Mexican place in Midtown East, and drowned ourselves in cocktails the size of our heads. I had a frozen sangria- SO delicious!

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to try a new cuisine during team lunch: Persian food! So to celebrate this new discovery, I will share my eats from yesterday.

Breakfast:

Definitely didn't go to far out of my comfort zone on this one, but it was delicious nonetheless! Fage 0% with cinnamon almonds and pumpkin butter.

Lunch:

This is where the excitement happened! During team lunch this week, an Iranian coworker suggested his favorite, Persian food. Because the rest of the office was clueless, he ordered some party platters and we went to town. I'm not exactly sure what I ate, but this plate is COVERED in assorted dips, roasted veggies, kebabs and stews. It was all DELICIOUS. I particularly loved the babaganoush and shredded cabbage dips!

Throughout the day, I continued to snack on the leftover hummus and babaganoush, so by the time dinner rolled around, I was pretty full...

Dinner:

 +  +

I made my Go-To Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Shake, made with Double Rich Chocolate Whey Protein, 2 scoops of Just Great Stuff Powdered Peanut Butter, Almond Breeze Vanilla Milk, and 6 ice cubes.

Normally I wouldn't do this for dinner, but the sheer mass of Persian food I consumed throughout the day called for a light dinner. Plus, it's beyond delicious and full of protein, which was perfect considering I ate this right before working out.

If I could put into words how much hummus and babaganoush I ate that day...

Also, I read this article this morning and it made me tear up a bit on my commute. If you've ever struggled with dieting, this article by Your Fairy Angel really puts things into perspective.

Have you ever tried Persian food? What new cuisines did you try this week?

  1. Persian food looks amazing. You know me and hummus are home gurls.
Had some delish Mediterranean grub on my birthday and I guess you could consider Big Gay Ice Cream it's own special cuisine ;)

I've never tried peanut butter powder but it looks like it would be good for smoothies and baking.

    Happy WIAW
